On November 19th, we’re partnering up with CrossFit Undeniable for a charity partner workout called “Helen Meets Grace.” Even if you have no experience with CrossFit or aren’t really sure what to expect, you should sign up! We can scale the workout to any ability level, and we’ll have tons of giveaways, food, and beer after the event. If you want to know a bit more about the workouts, let’s talk about them one by one!
First, let’s breakdown what CrossFit is exactly. You can check out the CrossFit Undeniable website for a full description, but in a nutshell, CrossFit involves a combination of full-body movements designed to address all aspects of fitness including strength, endurance, balance, coordination, etc. In one workout you might be doing lunges and push-ups before immediately heading out for a run. In another workout, you might be lifting something heavy overhead before a round of pull-ups.
CrossFit workouts are rarely the same day after day. From one day to the next, movements, reps, and time will all change to provide a different challenge. This provides a few major benefits, but most notably, it puts your body under different stresses every time you’re in the gym leading to gains in fitness and strength. Since the exercises like squatting and lunging involve movements we do during our daily lives, CrossFit also helps prepare you equally well for day-to-day challenges outside the gym.
Helen and Grace are both benchmark workouts meaning CrossFit athletes return to these workouts a few times a year as a yardstick to measure their fitness. Remember back in school when your teacher made you run the mile and compare your time, it’s just like that. Repeating a well-known workout gives athletes a chance to see how they’re progressing.
Grace involves an olympic movement called a clean and jerk. The bar starts on the ground and in two quick movements it’s brought up to the shoulders and then pressed overhead. The goal is to complete the workout as quickly as possible.
Grace
For time:
135 pound Clean and Jerk, 30 reps
Helen is a bit different than Grace. The workout involves three movements: running, kettlebell swings, and pull-ups. Again, the goal is to move through the workout as quickly as possible.
Helen
For time:
3 rounds
400m Run
21 KB Swings
12 Pull-ups
Part of the beauty of CrossFit is that the movements are infinitely scalable meaning regardless of whether you’re a veteran or a complete novice that hasn’t work out in awhile, the workout can be adjusted to fit your level.
Our charity workout at CrossFit Undeniable will involve both Grace and Helen in one workout that you’ll complete with a partner. Afterwards, we’ll have food, beer, giveaways, and music.
A few quick questions:
- What if I don’t want to work out? First, you should come workout! It’s going to be a blast. If you’re set on not working out though, you can still donate at drinkforpink.co/donate. We would love to have you at the event!
- I don’t have a partner. Don’t worry! We’ll find you one on the day of the event!
- I’ve never done CrossFit. We’ll have plenty of coaches on hand to make sure you feel completely comfortable before saying “Go!” We’ll meet you at your current fitness level!
We really hope to see you out at CrossFit Undeniable on November 19th starting at 9am! Follow the Facebook event for the full details. Thanks to CrossFit Undeniable and all of the various sponsors that are making this happen!
