Frannie's Day for the McGrath Foundation

Honoring Mum's Legacy: Frannie’s Day Fundraising for the McGrath Foundation

In 2002, I lost my mum, Fran, to breast cancer. She was just 53 years old. Mum was a strong, loving, and resilient woman, and while she fought cancer with everything she had, one of the things that made her journey a little more bearable was the support of our family. My dad and I were there for her every step of the way — but not everyone is as fortunate.

There are so many people who face cancer without the comfort of having loved ones by their side. They go through their journey alone, navigating the physical and emotional toll of cancer without the kind of support that we had. This realisation has been a driving force behind my efforts to give back, which is why I’ve made it my mission to fundraise for the McGrath Foundation, to provide the same level of compassionate care to others who need it most.

Why the McGrath Foundation?

The McGrath Foundation was founded to support people with breast cancer, and this year sees its incredible work expanded to provide free nursing care to individuals and families affected by ALL types of cancer. The McGrath Foundation’s nurses are a lifeline — offering practical, emotional, and psychological support during one of life’s most difficult battles.

Mum had the support of Dad and I, but we know that not everyone is as lucky. That’s why I’m so passionate about raising money to fund a McGrath nurse in Mum’s name. It’s a way to help others who may not have a family member there to guide them, to offer comfort, and to provide the care and support that can make all the difference in the world.

Frannie’s Day: Honoring Mum’s Memory

Since 2010, we’ve been holding Frannie’s Day, an event dedicated to raising money for the McGrath Foundation in my Mum’s honor. Over the years, we’ve raised more than $70,000 — a testament to the incredible generosity of our community and to the strength of Mum’s legacy.

Frannie’s Day is a celebration of Mum’s life and everything she stood for. It’s a day where we come together in pink, to remember her and the countless others affected by cancer. It’s a day full of fun, hope, and most importantly, support for those who need it the most.

We’ve raised significant funds, but we aren’t stopping. Our end goal is to fund our very own McGrath nurse. Every dollar raised brings us one step closer to providing this vital service to someone in need.

How You Can Help

There are many ways you can be a part of this important cause. Whether you’re able to donate, join us at Frannie’s Day, or spread the word, your support means the world to me. Here’s how you can help:

  1. Donate: Every contribution, big or small, helps fund a McGrath nurse. Your donation will directly support individuals and families affected by cancer, providing them with the care and guidance they need.

  2. Attend Frannie’s Day: Our annual event is a chance to gather together, honor Mum’s memory, and have fun while raising money for a cause that is close to my heart. This year we are celebrating 15 years of support for the McGrath Foundation and holding TWO events. Frannie's Day: September 14th and Knowledge For Knockers Trivia on October 4th. Please come along, and bring your friends and family!

  3. Spread the Word: If you’re unable to attend or donate, you can still make a difference by sharing this post with your network. Let’s raise awareness and bring in more support for this amazing cause.

The Impact of Your Support

Funding a McGrath nurse is not just about raising money — it’s about making a real difference in the lives of those fighting cancer.

By contributing to this cause, you’re helping to ensure that no one has to go through their cancer journey alone. You’re also honoring Mum’s legacy, and continuing her spirit of generosity and love.

Thank You

I want to thank everyone who has supported Frannie’s Day over the years, and those of you who are supporting us now. Your generosity and kindness make all the difference. Together, we are making an impact — not only by raising funds, but by offering hope and support to people going through the toughest time of their lives.

If you’d like to donate, attend our event, or learn more about how you can help, please message our Facebook page - Frannie's Day for the McGrath Foundation. Let’s keep Mum’s memory alive by making sure that others who are affected by cancer have the care and support they need.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
